

Biography
Patricia T. Johnson, M.Div., M.S. Ed.
Patricia Johnson is the President of R & P Community Services, Inc. Patricia oversees all aspects of its ministries including Ruby's Place which is a safe haven for women who are victims of domestic abuse, recovering from substance abuse and re–entering society after incarceration. Patricia is an ordained minister and has served in Christian ministry for twenty–four years. She co-chairs the Women's Ministry at the Point Lookout Community Church in Point Lookout, New York.
Patricia has been a high school teacher with the New York City Board of Education for ten Years. While there, she was appointed as interim curriculum developer for six month term. She has also taught pre–school and elementary students in Long Island, New York where she resides with her husband, Ralph, and two young sons.
Currently she serves as an educational consultant for the United State Department of Agriculture's Bio Research and Education Program and as an on–call parent member advocate for the Committee on Pre–School Education for the Uniondale School Distric in Long Island, New York.
In her ministry Experience, Patricia has been an active member of the inter–Varsity Christian Fellowship at Baruch College in New York City, Founding director of the Power of One Youth Ministry, Coordinator of the Sick–Visitation Ministry and Participant in the Prison Ministry (ministering to female inmates at Riker's island) at Bridge Street A.M.E church in Brooklyn, New York.
Focus
Ruby's Place is faith based mission where women in need of supportive services and housing are invited to come to work on strengthening their faith, gaining life skills, developing confidence and securing permanent housing.
Referrals
Women are referred by neighborhood agencies and faith based organizations. The criteria is:
- A woman who is a victim of domestic abuse
- A woman who is a recent graduate of a drug/alchohol treatment program
- A woman seeking re–entry
Accomodations
Ruby's Place is a clean, safe, and well maintained colonial home. The building houses a chapel and library, areas for studying, counseling, recreation and common meetings.
Programs
the community development component includes affordable housing, counseling, peer support, education and outings. The personal development offers spiritual support (prayer meetings, Bible study, classes and workship services), health education, fitness focus, financial workshops, creative art classes and preparation for employment.
The volunteer component is two–fold: (1) volunteers come to Ruby's Place to share their skills with participants through workshops, meetings and mentoring. Additionally, there are volunnteers who are pen pals. (2) Ruby's Place participants serve as volunteers for community business and organizations owed by faith based individuals and at the traveling Thrift and Gift shop owned and operated by the mission.
All components of the mission help participants to develop the faith, skills and confidence needed to live a fruitful life.
